Do you know Ankorstore, the multi-brand B2B marketplace (with many French DNVBs)? This French champion, expanding internationally, raised 250 million euros in January 2022. After a significant phase of customer acquisition, the startup is updating its pricing grid regarding commissions charged to its partner brands.

Here is the email received today (June 1, 2023, at 11:31 AM) by Ankorstore’s partner brands, which offer their products on the B2B marketplace.


Subject of the email: Evolution of our commission model

Hello,

I am Nicolas d’Audiffret, the CEO of Ankorstore. I am contacting you today to discuss the upcoming changes in Ankorstore’s business model.

For over three years now, we have been supporting independent retailers across the EU and the UK by providing them with resources, tools, and services that allow them to grow. We appreciate your collaboration in this mission as a business partner, and we want to ensure that you are informed and equipped to advance independent retail with us for many years to come.

The following changes are a crucial step to ensure our shared long-term future.

What will change

Starting July 1, 2023, we are implementing a new commission and service fee model that will apply to retailers and brands.

Orders via the marketplace

  • 24% commission on first orders (this does not change).
  • 12% service fee on reorder orders (these fees cover logistics costs, customer service, payment terms, credit insurance, and payment processing fees).

Orders via the Referral Offer

  • 0% service fee on all orders placed by customers you bring to Ankorstore via your Referral Offer code for a period of 12 months from their first purchase on Ankorstore. After these 12 months, the usual reorder service fee of 12% will apply.
  • For future customers you bring to Ankorstore via “My network” but who have already placed an order on the platform (and are therefore not eligible for your Referral code), the 12% service fee applies for the first order and then for reorders.

Supporting you during this transition period

We have implemented a set of actions to help you adapt your business strategy accordingly:

  • Guarantee of 0% service fee on your existing relationships for 12 months, meaning nothing will be charged to you before July 1, 2024, for customers who used your Referral code before July 1, 2023.
  • Reduced service fees to 6% (instead of 12%) for your customers on “My network” who did not use your Referral code but placed their first order before July 1, 2023. For all these orders for which we will charge you a 6% contribution, we will continue to cover your logistics and payment fees.

Why these changes?

During the first three years following our creation, we made Ankorstore the largest independent marketplace for professionals in Europe. We have since covered the substantial costs incurred for orders placed via our platform, despite not charging fees. The upcoming changes will ensure that Ankorstore’s business model will allow us to continue investing in building the best marketplace for professionals so you can grow your brands.

What’s next?

We will continue to support you by implementing concrete actions:

  • Improving our platform with new tools, like our new Shopify integration for brands.
  • Launching exciting new initiatives, like our subscription program, Ankorstore Plus, which has already significantly increased the average baskets of its subscribers.
  • Constantly improving our shipping services and partnerships to offer you the most competitive prices.
  • Continuing to organize trade events, such as Showrooms, which help build and strengthen relationships between retailers and brands.
  • Investing further in our search engine so that your brand is more easily discovered by new customers across Europe.
  • Investing in marketing initiatives to attract more retailers in the European Union and the UK.

In this spirit of collaboration, I therefore want to personally and more regularly share with you the progress of Ankorstore and the improvements we are making to the platform.

This email was intended for Belgian and Luxembourg brands, please disregard it.

As a reminder, the commission change has been effective in France since May 1, 2023.
